Here’s a fun craft to reuse old wine corks! This wreath requires few materials. Plus, corks are light, so the finished product is easy to hang anywhere.
Materials:
- wine corks (I used about 60 for a 12″ diameter wreath)
- embellishments
- ribbon
- florist wire (green preferred because it blends best)
- hot glue gun and glue
- wire wreath frame
Steps:
- Use florist wire to attach embellishments to the wire wreath frame. As you can see, I varied the spacing between embellishments with a couple close together and others further apart. Put a dab of hot glue on the ends of the wires. This just gets rid of the sharp ends so that you don’t stick yourself or snag your sweater on them in the future.
- Attach the corks with hot glue. Hold the corks from the front, and add the glue from the back to keep it hidden. I started from the outside ring and glued them flat. Then I repeated this for the inside ring. There will be gaps since you’re attaching little, straight corks to a circle. Plan these to fall under your embellishments, so they’re well-covered. Between the outside and inside rings, alternate corks pointing outside or inside the wreath so that they form an approximate V. See the image below. This will add dimension, and you can position the corks to again cover any visible wreath frame.
- Add the ribbon. I went with a basic bow since the ribbon had a distinctive “right side”, which made it difficult to make a traditional wreath bow. If you’re interested in a wreath bow, check out this tutorial. I also added some bits of ribbon throughout the embellishments. I didn’t want to cover up the corks but did want to tie the colors together.
- Add a hanger. I used wire here and simply twisted it around two of the frame’s crossbars. I would prefer twine if I’d had some on hand. You could also use a thinner ribbon.
